In 1998, Roger Lin met Connie Corrales, the director of the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) at Sourcewise. Although his career was in the software and aerospace industry, Roger was inspired to train and become a HICAP volunteer.
Roger began counseling others about Medicare policy and information. He has helped seniors with language and cultural barriers to understand and evaluate the confusing array of insurance options, eligibility, benefits, claims, and billing questions. As a multi-lingual speaker (fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English), his counseling services benefit the Chinese-American community.
“Roger Lin is instrumental in providing direction to the Asian population in Santa Clara County. In the 15 years that Roger has volunteered, he has gone above and beyond his duty as a HICAP volunteer, sharing his knowledge of Medicare and its complexities. Roger embodies the spirit of greatness by always saying, ‘Yes I can’ to any request.” Connie said.
In 2001, Roger was invited to join the Board of Directors for the Chinese Seniors Club of the Santa Clara Valley, an organization dedicated to promote the welfare of Chinese seniors. He devotes his time to organizing a variety of social, educational and cultural activities for the club. His service has included a board position, a four-year presidency, and he is currently an advisor.
Roger is experienced in volunteer management and collaborates with other groups including the Sunnyvale Community Center (where he is a Leadership Council Member) and the American Cancer Society. When not volunteering, he and his wife love ballroom dancing and singing. Roger finds tremendous fulfillment in serving the community.
