The Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP) is a subsidized employment training program offered at Sourcewise. The program’s goal is to provide contemporary job skills and increase the marketability of senior workers.

The Senior Community Services Employment Program starts with an application and review process. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including being 55 years or older, and being within low income guidelines. The candidate must be a resident of Santa Clara County with the legal right to work in the U.S.

Applicants are interviewed and tested to determine their interests and aptitude. Qualified enrollees are assigned to a participating organization where they receive supervised on-the-job training. Training assignments are temporary, part-time positions, usually 16-20 hours per week.

Senior Employment staff workers at Sourcewise assist seniors with developing new skills. One participant, Christine Watts, recently made a career change and is delighted with her assignment at Darling & Fischer in San Jose. “I love my work! It’s rewarding because people appreciate just being listened to. It’s nice to be needed.” states Christine.

Senior Employment Services also offers a Homecare Aide Training Program, sponsored and administered by Sourcewise. This is a 60 hour formal training class which is taught by a certified nurse. This class is invaluable for anyone caring for an elderly person, or someone with a disability. According to Henri Villalovoz, Director of Senior Employment Services, 95% of students successfully complete the program and find work in the health care field within 30-45 days after graduation.
