Support and Training for Caregivers
Caring for a loved one can be difficult, demanding, and overwhelming whether you have cared for someone in the past or if this is your first time. New caregivers could benefit from proper training on how to care for their loved ones, and experienced caregivers could use additional training when the level of care they are providing increases.Â
Caregiving can be stressful and can result in higher levels of depression and anxiety compared to non-caregiving peers. Caregivers can also often neglect their own needs. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 5 caregivers report having fair to poor health, and 2 in 5 report having at least two chronic conditions. While training cannot prevent all health concerns, it can help caregivers manage stressful and demanding situations to support their own health while caring for others.Â
To help unpaid caregivers strengthen their caregiving skills, knowledge, and receive ongoing support, Caregivers Network by Sourcewise created the WeCare program. This program offers a web-based application that is easy to use with accessing training videos and resources that will help caregivers increase their knowledge and skills based on their individual caregiving needs. Â
Training videos are available in English and Spanish. Categories for training videos may include caregiver basics, caregiver stress management, fall prevention, personal care needs for a loved one, and Alzheimer’s & Dementia care.Â
WeCare offers:Â
- Real-time text messaging with a Care Navigator to help guide you through the training.Â
- Motivational text-messages and reminders to resources and videos.Â
- Personalized video and resource library specific to your situation and needs.Â
- The Caregivers Network team is ready to provide access to training, resources, support, and information to empower all unpaid caregivers. Â
